Concept, Design and Project Management for Museum Schnütgen Website Relaunch
About Museum Schnütgen
Since 1956, Museum Schnütgen as one of Europe’s finest medieval art collections, is hosted in Cäcilienkirche, one of cologne’s most ancient churches. The museum established itself as a very important centre for medieval research, that has it’s main focus in collecting and exhibiting sacred art of the Rhineland and it’s surroundings.
The main challenge was to create a very intense User Experience, which was achieved by displaying fullscreen photographs of pieces from the collection. Combined with corresponding sayings, the user is enabled to experience medieval sacred art in connection with everyday life.
Helping visitors access the world of medieval art, the newly created “Wege durch die Sammlung” guides them by using “paths” explore the collection trough time periods, materials or topics and functions.
Cäcilienkirche as Museum Schnütgen’s host, is well known as a place of sublimity and transcendence. Therefore the museums’s new responsive website is characterized by a clear and clean design, accompanied by high quality photographs and images that reflect the museum’s actual visitor experience.
